QCIF to give ReDBox talk at eResearch NZ

QCIF will attend the eResearch New Zealand conference this month to present a talk about ReDBox, the QCIF-developed open source research data management platform.

Both Gavin Kennedy, QCIF’s Outreach and Engineering Manager, and Jo Morris, QCIF’s National User Support Manager, will attend the conference, being held 12–14 February in Queenstown, NZ.

Gavin will present a talk alongside Dr Peter Sefton, from the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), about the development of ReDBox to support the research data lifecycle.

“We will be demonstrating extensions to ReDBox that support the UTS-developed provisioning framework, and we will be discussing how ReDBox provides its research data discovery services,” said Gavin.

UTS’ work will allow ReDBox to integrate with a growing variety of data storage and data management services, and will provide an active catalogue of these services to researchers.

Gavin will also discuss the Research Activity Portal (RAP). Developed late last year using the ReDBox platform, RAP is a free online resource allowing data managers and institutions to easily register a research activity and generate a Research Activity ID (RAiD), a persistent identifier used to connect researchers, data, infrastructure and services to research projects.

“Already there is strong interest from New Zealand institutions in ReDBox and RAP,” said Gavin. “Our talk is aimed at showing how ReDBox will support institutions as well as fitting into the New Zealand data management framework.”
