QCIF supports geospatial data-centric research

Australia has become a digital landscape, with increasing layers of data indexed by geospatial co-ordinates. 

Data-centric research is increasingly taking advantage of this digital landscape to improve outcomes in environmental analysis, agricultural innovation, population health, built environments and social development.

QCIF is at the leading edge in research data services and works closely with research communities and spatial data generators to provide compute and storage infrastructure, data management services and data discovery services.

QCIF supports the spatial data-centric research community to take advantage of emergent trends in increased data acquisition through new satellite and drone technologies; distributed data collection networks and sensor based data; enhanced data storage and access tools; and advanced analytics, including machine learning.

Examples of QCIF collaborations around geospatial platforms include James Cook University’s Tropical Data Hub, the Vegmachine ground cover analysis tool, the Terrestrial Ecosystem Research Network (TERN), the Biodiversity and Climate Change Virtual Laboratory (BCCVL) and the Australian Urban Research Infrastructure Network (AURIN).
