Chantelle Pinnington has joined QCIF as an eResearch Analyst based at James Cook University in Townsville.
Chantelle is an eResearch specialist within JCU’s eResearch Centre where researchers and technology intersect.
She will assist in the promotion and support of QCIF services to researchers at JCU.
“I am looking forward to providing support and helping expand researchers’ knowledge of the tools and options available to them during the term of their research,” she said.
With a background and degree in environmental science, Chantelle is a specialist in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and spatial information in general.
Her first professional role within this area was as a Spatial Information Officer with Queensland’s then-named Department of Environment and Resource Management.
She worked alongside other spatial information officers and surveyors on the Digital Cadastral Database and a wide variety of data sets held within the Queensland Government, and gained further skills in managing databases and enterprise GIS in the process.
She later became a GIS Officer with North Queensland Bulk Ports, and updated and managed the ports’ GIS system.
“We are seeing more and more research projects needing spatially orientated skills and knowledge, and with Chantelle’s background, we believe that it’s a perfect fit for eResearch at QCIF,” said QCIF eResearch Manager Nigel Ward.
