Professor John Bell has replaced Dr Erin Rayment as the QCIF board member for the University of Southern Queensland.
Prof. Bell joined USQ last August as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), following 25 years at QUT as Head of the School of Chemistry, Physics and Mechanical Engineering (2012–2019), and as Assistant Dean (Research) in the Faculty of Built Environment and Engineering (2001–2011).
Dr Rayment left USQ to become QUT’s Executive Director of Industry Engagement, a role she started last month.
Prof. Bell’s strong record of research leadership is evident in that QUT’s School of Chemistry, Physics and Mechanical Engineering now contributes approximately 20% of QUT research income and 30% of the research degree completions. It also spans advanced nanotechnology, large scale renewable energy research, advanced polymers, and industrial process engineering, involving significant engagement with industry, and involvement with several Cooperative Research Centres (CRC), including (currently) the Future Battery Industries CRC.
Prof. Bell has a long history of association with CRCs, having been a program leader in both the Australian CRC for Renewable Energy (1996–2001), and in the CRC for Construction Innovation (2002–2004), and a Director of the CRC for Railway Innovation (2008–2010) and the CRC for Integrated Engineering Asset Management (2012–2013).
His research career covers nanotechnology and new materials development, materials for energy efficiency, conversion and storage.
QCIF welcomes Prof. Bell to the board, and thanks Dr Rayment for her contribution to QCIF and wishes her all the best in her new role.
Professor John Bell.
